Autumn Term Learning in the Outdoors
A feature of this term has been the desire to take learning outside. Not only is it considered ‘healthier’ but evidence shows children learn well in an outdoor setting. We have continued to use forest school principles in Reception and Y1 this term with regular timetabled sessions. These usually involve singing in the forest school story circle, games, craft activities and getting close to nature. They usually end with hot chocolate and a story! Thanks to Mrs Stokes and Miss Teague for continuing to run these sessions and brave the outdoors whatever the weather. In Y2 and the junior classes teachers are finding creative ways to weave outdoor activities into the new curriculum, recent examples include Y4 building Egyptian Shadufs to carry water and Y5 using maths concepts to design prisons for the Minotaur in Greek legend.
