Forest School Activities at Lordsgate

Between December 2018 and February 2019 our Reception and Y1 class have taken part in Forest school sessions run by West Lancashire School Sports Partnership.  We have begun to create an area of the school to use for this purpose in the corner of our field, we have seating and a fire pit and intend to add extra resources to this area in the near future.  Forest school principles include activities to foster resilient, confident, independent and creative learners and opportunities for the children to take appropriate risks. Children are expected to, and indeed have, gone out in all weathers—this adds to the challenge! During Forest school sessions children have learnt about nature through minibeast hunts and identification charts, have made dens, lit fires, toasted marshmallows, used tools and completed outdoor challenges. We are looking at ways to ensure all children in school have access to these type of opportunities and access to the ‘Forest School’ area
