Harvest Celebrations 2014
On Friday 10th October we celebrated and gave thanks for the Harvest in style. We were very pleased with the children in church on Friday morning who delivered their harvest presentations with confidence and raised the roof with some excellent singing. The classes presentations showed how, through this terms Christian Value of Respect, we give thanks for the variety and quantity of food we receive. The children also showed how at harvest time we think of others in need and this year we have supported three charities. This is what each class presented:
Reception—After reading Little Red Hen, reception learned about bread and sang us a fantastic song.
Year 1— Produced art work and told us about ‘their favourite foods’
Year 2—Showed us that there are many different foods from all around the world.
Year 4—Talked about how man has farmed the land through the ages,
Year 3—Told us about the Mission Aviation Fellowship charity through role play and a rather spectacular model plane.
Year 5—Presented information about Water Aid and sang ‘Harvest for the World,’, with Mr Jaeger on the guitar.
Year 6—Had researched Food banks and wrote some excellent poerty.
However, the day did not end there as in the afternoon we hosted a Farmers Market. Thanks to the hard work of Mr Allday and Mrs Nelson, and generous donation from the local farming community and retailers, a bounty of local produce was on display. Many thanks to all the parents who attended and brought items from the market. Thanks too for all your donations of produce and tinned goods for the food bank. We know that over £200 was raised for the chosen charities. Well done to everyone for making Harvest 2014 a very special one.
