The purpose of the trip to China is to forge links with Chinese school in order for children of Lordsgate to have a wider global perspective and understanding of different cultures.
The first Primary school visited was Beijing Fe Rong Primary school which was a very modern school with a very forward thinking philosophy about global education. We were met by three 6 year old children from photography club who followed us around all day! We were treated to a demonstration English lesson and a Chinese culture lesson. Then a tour of the very modern facilities. Chinese Primary schools are much bigger than English ones because of their large population so class sizes are very big too. Therefore Primary schools are run like mini secondary schools with good subject specific resources.
On Wednesday we travelled 1000 miles south of Beijing to a city called Fuzhou. Here we have been partnered with 'Affiliated No.4 Primary School of Fuzhou College'. After presenting to ten Chinese schools about English Primary education Mr Hackett visited the school. He was given a very special welcmoe as you can see from the pictures! It was lovely to see such happy and smiling children and to be twinned with a school with the same caring philosophy as our own. I was treated to dances and songs specially prepared for me and given many gifts to bring back to Lordsgate. I played ping pong with the headteacher and watched many classes. I even had my own special art lesson demonstrating many traditional Chinese art techniques. I was able to show all their staff some of the great things we do at Lordsgate and they were keen to develop some of the things we do in their own school. I have made very good friends with the children and staff at the school and we can look forward to developing strong links in the future.
