Remembrance and Peace
Our theme in assemblies and for classrooms during November has been ‘Remembrance’. There has been some lovely work completed by the children which have linked this theme to our Christian Values of Peace and Respect. The highlight of the theme was a wonderfully moving and thoughtful service led by Reverend Jones and Mr Allday on the 11th November at 11am. All the children had made a poppy to place at the front of the school and this formed the focal point for the service. Miss Hillier ‘s class had made a poppy wreath which was also laid as part of the service. The staff were all very impressed with how well the children respected the two minutes silence. Thank you to Miss Hillier for the work involved in organising and creating the poppy field . At the end of the week, during star assembly, the children showed some of the work that has been completed on this theme. Reception held up some poppy pictures, Y1 and Y2 had been thinking about the value of peace with Y1 making peace doves in different languages and Y2 making a peace poster. Year 3 and Y4 have been considering the history and impact of WWI and year 5 and Y6 had learnt about the peace truce that took place during the war.
