Remembrance at Lordsgate
On Wednesday 5th November Y6 were lucky enough to have a special day planned for them at St John’s Church by Mrs Diane Edwards. Children went to the graveyard to complete a history trail. They learnt about people that lived in Burscough who died in the World Wars. They learnt about the time line of the conflicts and other things that happened around this time. There was a focus on the Ringtail Airfiled and Burscough’s importance during the war. The children looked at the stained glass window inside St John’s church identifying people who died in the wars. The children spent time in the graveyard looking for particular names and finding out their role in the war. Y6 were left with a signed book of Burscough’s History. The whole class enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal. So much so they were inspired to deliver an assembly on the subject on Thursday 13th November to the whole school. The feedback from Mrs Edwards about the knowledge, behaviour and respect shown by the children was amazing—well done Y6!
Each year we like to commemorate our local links with the Ringtail Airfield by attending the Ringtail Memorial Service. This year the service was held on Tuesday 11th November at 10.45am where Georgie and Edward from Y6 attended with Mr Hackett to lay a poppy wreath as part of our act of remembrance. All children respectfully took part in the two minutes silence at 11am on the 11th in school.
