Pearl of Africa Choir Visit - 9th October 2023

On Monday 9th October the children from the Pearl of Africa Choir, Uganda visited Lordsgate school.  The day began with an introductory assembly where we greeted our visitors with a song from our school choir ‘You can count on me’.  During the day each class had an opportunity to take part in a drumming or singing workshop.  There was also dancing and opportunities for questions and answers.  Children also bought Ugandan crafts from the craft stall with money generously supplied by families.  During lunchtime the children of the choir mixed with Lordsgate children which was a magical thing to see and a great experience for our children.  At the end of the day we showcased what we had achieved in  the drumming and singing workshops and there was time for more songs and dances from the Pearl of Africa Choir.  This musical extravaganza continued into the evening when we hosted a concert with the choir where we were treated to more Ugandan songs and dances and our school choir (and some of our ex-pupils) sung their entry into the Last Choir Singing competition—the Ugandan song ‘Siyahamba’.  The finale and memorable moment of the evening was our children  who attended the concert taking to the stage to sing along with the Pearl of Africa to the Song ‘Asante’ (meaning ‘Thank you God for the children).  Thank you for anyone who attended and thanks to the school choir and Mrs Donohue for enhancing the day with songs from our children.  The purpose of the whole event was to help raise money for the Molly and Paul foundation who run schools, homes and provide education and medicines for young people in Uganda.
