Y4 PGL 2025
Tue 06 May 2025On Tuesday 6th May Y4 visited PGL at Winmarleigh Hall. Within 20 minutes of arriving we were out and about around the site being Eco Explorers looking for the birds, beasts and insects of Winmarleigh. After a great lunch where everyone ate really well, we had one of the children's favourite activities so far - The climbing wall with many children making it to the top of the tower!! It was then time to use our brains not our brawn with a range of problem solving activities within the park. After tea we took part in the Balloon Splash Challenge where children competed in wacky events like the shoe stacking challenge to earn gold to pay for protective items for their water balloon, which were then thrown off the top of the tower to put them to the test! Just before bedtime on day one the children were treated to a hot chocolate - What a day!!

Y6 PGL July 2024 Day 2
Tue 02 Jul 2024Day 2 of PGL - an action packed day! Children have completed four activities in the day. Abseiling and the climbing wall were an opportunity for children to overcome a fear of heights and we were impressed with children challenging themselves to reach the top of the tower. Aeroball is a fast competitive game of scoring 'baskets' whilst trampolining! This was some of our children's favourite activity and certainly tired them out! A new activity for us today was 'archery tag'. After practicing how to use the bow and arrows children lined up against each other to be 'living' targets and then some children were brave enough to run the gauntlet whilst being shot at by arrows! Staff were pleased how children sensibly went to bed last night and are hoping for the same tonight. All are well fed, well exercised and have had a great day.

Y6 PGL July 2024
Mon 01 Jul 2024Y6 arrived at PGL Boreatton Hall in Shropshire at 11am and after a quick tour and a picnic lunch we were straight into activities led by our 'Groupie'. Following a few team games we set off for the lake for a raft building activity. Children built their own rafts and set sail on the lake for fun and frolics! The session ended with children taking a dip and a thorough soaking! All the children ate well at tea time and were ready for our evening challenge activity - Frisbie Golf!
Just before a heavy downpour children were back safely in their rooms and happily bedding down for the evening. A good day had by all.

Antibullying week—13th—17th November 2023
Fri 17 Nov 2023The theme of this year’s Antibullying week was ‘Make a noise about bullying’ where we reminded children to talk to an adult if they are worried about bullying and to show kindness through their actions. The children wore ‘odd socks’ to help understand the message that we are all special and unique and should not be teased for being different. As well as special assemblies each class contributed to the theme in their own way.
Rec– Made a recipe for friendship and posters to show how they looked after each another
Y1— Read stories that supported the theme and made ‘Good friend hand wreaths’
Y2— Designed posters on how to ‘make a noise about bullying’
Y3—Looked at cyberbullying and what a positive and negative response to on-line bullying would be
Y4—Worked together to write antibullying poetry
Y5—Wrote antibullying poems and designed posters around the ‘make some noise’ theme
Y6 worked on one of their passport activities which was to design an event for the school. They planned and delivered a fabulous day of antibullying workshops for other classes to take part in. Activities included friendship chains, bullying Bingo, board games, making ‘make a noise’ shakers, Odd Socks puzzles and ‘Small Girl Big World’ scenario plays. Everyone enjoyed the Y6 workshops and we all enjoyed sharing work completed in Antibullying week in Monday’s worship.

Remembrance Services
Sun 12 Nov 2023Each year we like to commemorate our local links with the Ringtail Airfield by attending the Ringtail Memorial Service held on the 11th November each year. This year Callum represented the school superbly on Saturday 11th by laying a wreath on behalf of the Lordsgate community at the memorial and taking part in the service.
We were also invited by the local council to the Burscough and District memorial service of Remembrance held on Sunday 12th November. It was lovely to be part of this community event alongside the other local youth organisation such as guides, brownies, rainbows, scouts etc which many of our children attend. It was great that this year eight Lordsgate children represented the school in the parade and took part in the service. A special mention to Charlotte and Annie in Y6 who represented the school by reading out names from the Roll of Honour, the fallen whose names are inscribed on the memorial and laying stones We were very proud of their contribution to the service speaking clearly and with confidence. Thank you also to Stevie, Kaden, Hugo, Eva, Sophie and Daniel who braved the weather to attend.

Harvest Service - Harvest of Love
Fri 13 Oct 2023On Friday 13th October all the children attended St John’s church to take part in our annual Harvest Service. This year our service was called ‘Harvest of Love’ as we were; thanking God that he loves us and provides for us, sharing our love and thinking of others and showing how we can love God’s world (all aspects of our curriculum strands). Each class did a short presentation, we sung a song in British Sign Language called ‘Together’ and our choir gave a rendition of ‘You can count on me’. Here is each classes contribution:
Reception—What we are thankful for and a harvest song
Y1—Thankful for breakfast and cereal and thinking about what Ugandan children might have during their day
Y2—Thankful for God’s creation and how we should look after it
Y3—’Harvest for the World’ song
Y4—St John’s Classrooms for Kiyindi appeal and ‘It’s a Wonderful World’ song
Y5—Food miles and how we should consider where our food comes from
Y6—Pearl of Africa Choir visit and ‘Asante’ song and dance
As part of the service we reminded families that we are also collecting for St John’s chosen charity of Classrooms for Kiyindi, also in Uganda. A group of people, including ex-pupils from Lordsgate will be visiting next year to help the classrooms to be built. Once again thank you for your generous donations and sponsorship.
Videos of the reception, Year 3’s, Year 4’s, year 6’s and choir singing in church can be found in the event gallery on the school website.
