  • Lordsgate Receive Lancashire’s Learning for Life Award

Mon 12 Jan 2026 Mr Hackett

I would like to share the news that we have achieved the silver award accreditation for Lancashire Learning for Life awards.  This essentially replaces the ’Healthy School Award’ which we have held for many years.  We applied for an award in the area of Well Being which linked to all our work on mental health. However we have also been awarded the silver award in ALL 6 areas due to the assessor being so impressed with all areas of the award when she completed her assessment in December.  The six areas are:

    · Living Safely

    · Our lives beyond school

    · An equal and diverse society

    · Our wellbeing

    · Our relationships

    · Being a responsible citizen

  • Antibullying week—10th—14th November

Fri 14 Nov 2025 Mr Hackett

Last week was anti-bullying week, a national week organised by the anti-bullying alliance.  This years’ theme was ‘Power for Good’.  We introduced the theme in worship time on Monday and continued to discuss and focus on this theme during PSHE sessions in classes. During the week children wore ‘odd socks’ to help them remember the message that we are all special and unique and should not be teased for being different.   Year 6  organised a series of fun anti-bullying activities for the other classes to join in with on Friday 14th November. Activities included ’What is your superpower cloak, drawing superheroes with special qualities, good thoughts jars, antibullying game, bullying role plays and badge making.

On Monday 17th November the classes shared in worship what they had been focussing on during Antibullying week.

Reception—Made Superhero masks and shields, they thought about their superhero ‘powers for good’ to add to their shields

Year 1—Did fantastic pieces of writing about their antibullying powers

Year 2—Created a group poster about forms of bullying and focussed on the difference between joking, teasing and bullying

Year 3—Learnt about cyberbullying and created posters about what it is and how you should tackle it

Year 4— Looked at the effects of bullying and made posters to raise awareness of bullying and its effects

Year 5— Use Spanish phrases about friendship to create a class poem about being a good friend

Year 6— Created the antibullying workshops for the rest of the school to take part in on Friday

  • Remembrance at Lordsgate

    Tue 11 Nov 2025

On Wednesday 5th November Y6 were lucky enough to have a special day planned for them at St John’s Church by Mrs Diane Edwards. Children went to the graveyard to complete a history trail. They learnt about people that lived in Burscough who died in the World Wars.  They learnt about the time line of the conflicts and other things that happened around this time.  There was a focus on the Ringtail Airfiled and Burscough’s importance during the war.  The children looked at the stained glass window inside St John’s church identifying people who died in the wars.  The children spent time in the graveyard looking for particular names and finding out their role in the war.  Y6 were left with a signed book of Burscough’s History.  The whole class enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal.  So much so they were inspired to deliver an assembly on the subject on Thursday 13th November to the whole school.  The feedback from Mrs Edwards about the knowledge, behaviour and respect shown by the children was amazing—well done Y6!

Each year we like to commemorate our local links with the Ringtail Airfield by attending the Ringtail Memorial Service.  This year the service was held on Tuesday  11th November at 10.45am where Georgie and Edward from Y6 attended with Mr Hackett  to lay a poppy wreath as part of our act of remembrance.  All children respectfully took part in the two minutes silence at 11am on the 11th in school.

  • Earth Warriors Tree Planting - Friday 17th October

Fri 17 Oct 2025 Mr Hackett

On Friday 17th October our ‘Earth Warriors’ were invited to attend a tree planting session with Burscough Town Council at a new site earmarked to be a small nature reserve on Back Moss Lane.  The children were given a short talk about the tress they were planting and once they had been shown how to ‘plant a tree’ were set off to cover  a small area just for our school.  Members of the council and the local authority were very impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm and we look forward to revisting the site to see the fruits of our labours.  The site is not yet open to the public but we look forward to letting you know when it is and organising another visit for the children.  Well done to Ray, Georgie, Edie, Tiffany, Charlie W, Isobelle, Charlotte. Alfie, Evelyn, Charlie C and Emily.

  • Harvest Service—Friday 17th October

Fri 17 Oct 2025 Mr Hackett

We had a fantastic Harvest service which incorporated our curriculum strand of God's love for others through the wonderful donations we received.  Our Service also supported our theme of ‘love for the world’ through consideration of the journey our food has to take to get to our dinner plates. We thanked God, for his hand in each part of the process. . . . .

Reception thanked God for His creation. He made the world for us to look after and created plants and animals to be our food.

Year 1 sang a song and shared information about planting seeds.

Year 4 thanked God for the rain and the sun and the soil to grow seeds in.
Year 5 produced wonderful artwork and a lovely poem about harvesting the land and the seas.

Year 3 shared an A to Z of how food is produced in our factories.

Year 2 said thank you for our food through artwork and a lovely song.

Year 6 have been learning about global warming and our carbon footprint. As part of their science studies. They shared what they had been learning and also discussed the problems of food waste, an issue we have been tackling in school recently.

Well done everyone, thank you to our Junior Choir for another great performance and a special well done to our new reception class for their wonderful first performance in our church.

  • Pearl of Africa Choir Visit—Friday 10th October 2025

Fri 10 Oct 2025 Mr Hackett

On Friday 10th October the whole school community welcomed four children and their adult chaperone ‘Auntie Annette’ to Lordsgate School.  The Pearl of Africa Choir represent 1800 children who are looked after in 5 schools run by the Molly and Paul Foundation in Uganda.  The children are desperate fro money to gain an education, to access medications such as anti-malarial drugs and for food.  We learnt that a £5 donation would feed a child the porridge they are provided with for one month and that £10 would give a child protection from  Malaria.  Only four children were allowed Visas this year when in previous yeasr we have hosted upt o 15 children.  This was a shame and means it is harder for the charity to raise money.  However It was fantastic to see how Lordsgate children interacted so respectfully with the choir members that did come to Lordsgate during workshops that the choir ran during the day and  at lunchtime.  At the end of the school day we showcased a dance the children learnt to the song ‘Oshea’ meaning thank you  and demonstrated our drumming skills!  In the evening the Pearl of Africa Choir gave us a wonderful concert of African song and dance accompanied by the drumming skills of the young people from the choir.  It was a wonderful moment when our school choir joined the concert and sang two songs alongside the Pearl of Africa children.   The children were able to buy Ugandan crafts thanks to the generous donations you sent in to school and money was also raised though ticket sales and donations.  More information about the choir and ways you can donate if you have been moved by our links with this charity can be found at  www.pearlofafrica.org.uk.  We believe we have raised nearly £2000 for this worthwhile charity to support children in Uganda.

  • Y6 Tuesday Shoppers Service at St John’s Church

Tue 23 Sep 2025 Mr Hackett

On Tuesday 23rd September Y6 were invited to the 20th Anniversary of the Tuesday ‘Shoppers’ Service at St John’s church to showcase some of the Sign Language they have been learning with Graham Powell.  Graham is coming in to Lordsgate and working with the Y6 class on their Level 1 British Sign Language Award every Tuesday.  He also signs at the Tuesday service which we are developing links with the plan for the children to regularly support this event.  The Tuesday service was originally set up in 2005 to deliver a new informal style of service capturing the new community that the opening of the Tesco Superstore would bring to Burscough.  The service has been going from strength to strength from then and is now attended by many in our community who prefer ‘a shorter and more informal style of worship’.  The children’s signing of ‘Thankful’ was well received by the congregation and the children enjoyed joining in with the service.

  • Football Tournament—Tuesday 23rd September—District Champions!

Tue 23 Sep 2025 Mr Hackett

Last Tuesday, 10 of our year 5s and 6s went to represent our school at the Ormskirk/Tarleton football tournament - the first event of the year!  As always, expectation and excitement was high and our boys quickly got into their stride, winning their first three games.  We then played out a very frustrating 0-0 draw, with the Lordsgate team missing a glut of chances to win the game.  It became tense in the final few games as it became clear that the chance for glory was in the offing.  We won our next 2 games, including a comeback win against Tarleton, to set up a final showdown against Ormskirk CE school.  A tense affair was settled with the final kick of the game as Cody raced through to score - a goal that meant we had been unbeaten all evening and were rightly named CHAMPIONS!!! Very well done to all of the boys who contributed so well to this success: Edward P, Ben, Cody, Stevie, Stanley, Jamie, Joe, Tommy, Lucas & James.
